How to Build a Solid Headline (And I'm Not Talking About That YouTuber with the Massive Hairline, KSI)
Yes, that was a way of grabbing your attention, and you most likely Googled KSI to see who I was talking about. Do you see how that piqued your interest? I was able to cut through the clutter and stand out with some clever wording, but it doesn't all come down to that.
Grabbing your audience's attention right off the bat can really benefit you with viewership retention. If some random girl that dances on TikTok can keep your attention for a 30-second dance and not even provide you with valuable information, then why can't you do the same? ... Come to think of it… that really was a poor choice of words on my part. Let's move on.
Tonality:
When creating your headline, I want you to remember the tonality you tend to use. For example, when creating these blogs, I really enjoy using humor, and I use that often. I find it breaks up the mundane and allows the reader to become immersed in what they are reading. This is why you will see my blogs maintaining some humorous aspects but as well providing information that will benefit people. Which leads me into my second point.
Provide valuable information in your headline and be specific with your message.
You don't want people to be confused or feel like they are trying to navigate through an escape room created by engineers; by far the worst experience I have ever had. Mind you, I paid money to lock myself in a room for an hour, so that's pretty dumb. Maybe you shouldn't be taking advice from a guy who did that. Anyway, be specific and have a clear message in your headline. You don't walk up to a beautiful woman and try to talk to her by saying, "Alright, I'm here. You have 2 wishes left."... NO! You start off by getting her attention, confidently walk up to her, and say, "It would have really bothered me if I didn't let you know this. You have strong feminine features that I find alluring, and it appears to me that you really put in a lot of effort into yourself. I find that admirable." Now, what sounded better? The one that was clear, direct, and had a strong choice of words, or the one that was half-assed? I'm going to make an educated guess and say that you chose the second one.
Don't be lazy, get creative:
Alright, I have to discuss this because I encounter this all the time with clients. "I can use AI." Yes, you absolutely can. I will not deny that. But I have to say AI is built to do specific tasks when asked. It's a machine. You ask it what 1+1 is, and it gives you the answer. You ask it to write a headline for a blog about writing headlines, and it will spit this out to you:

I literally just asked ChatGPT to write me a headline for a blog about writing headlines. And what you just read is what it spat out. It has no human tones, no life behind the text, no personality. It's literally a word salad, words that no human would ever use in any sentence structure. Now, I'm not going to say all AI is bad, just use it accordingly. If you're having trouble, then use it for help. Get AI to brainstorm with you so you can more effectively get the ball rolling. It's a tool to help you improve, not a substitute for your work. AI has been around for some time now, so readers are becoming accustomed to recognizing it. As I mentioned, use AI as a tool to help you move forward. If you're the man who uses AI to your advantage, you will never be replaced by it, but you sure will replace all the people who are not smart enough to understand this principle.
Conclusion:
When working on a headline, treat it as building a solid foundation for your content. It needs to be strong, attention-grabbing, and able to support the weight of your message. By following these tips – using tonality, providing value, being specific, and getting creative – you can write headlines that attract readers but also keep them engaged. Speaking of staying engaged.
